Summary:

Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as an effective tool for training in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals. Boehringer Ingelheim, a global leader in the pharmaceutical industry, has adapted to the digital landscape by introducing «With you in your pharmacy,» a reference portal already affiliated with over 16,000 pharmacies in Spain.

The portal aims to provide solutions for healthcare professionals, offering training and patient management tools. By integrating VR into pharmacies, Boehringer Ingelheim identifies industry needs and showcases the benefits of its products.

Over the past five years, the web portal has focused on informative and training content, ensuring pharmacists stay updated with the latest developments and quality information for patient care. The transition of this content into a virtual and immersive environment enhances professionals’ retention capacity.

The Campreciós Pharmacy in Barcelona is one of the establishments that have experienced this virtual journey positively. The project, led by Boehringer Ingelheim, seeks to make pharmacists the protagonists of immersive pharmacy experiences, emphasizing digitalization’s importance in training.

In 2023, the company launches «VR TOUR Contigo,» offering a 360° immersive VR experience through the Pico Neo 4 glasses. Users can explore a virtual pharmacy with seven pharmaceutical activities, including assembling inhaler devices and experiencing the effects of certain medications on vasoconstriction. The virtual tool also provides access to product documentation, interactive courses, and e-books.

In just four months, VR Tour has accumulated over 2,000 hours of experience and delivered more than 2,600 virtual medications. The project aims to evolve with participant feedback and is sustainable, with the VR glasses being reused in different pharmacies after cleaning and disinfection.

This project is part of Boehringer Ingelheim’s commitment to transform the pharmaceutical sector through innovative technologies. It has established areas in Spain to optimize technological services, support regulatory affairs, and promote medicines. The company’s goal is to continue advancing in human and animal health and biopharmaceutical production while focusing on sustainability and environmental protection. The incorporation of advanced technological tools allows them to develop drugs that positively impact lives.
