YouTube Health has officially launched in Spain, providing users with reliable health information from authorized medical sources. As people increasingly turn to the internet to seek answers to health concerns, this initiative aims to combat misinformation by prioritizing content from trusted healthcare organizations, professionals, and public health experts. YouTube Health curates its health-related searches, ensuring that videos from credible sources appear first, offering users accurate and evidence-based information.

In Spain, views of health-related videos on YouTube increased by 20% in 2023. As of December 2023, YouTube has accumulated over 9 billion views on health videos in the country. By the end of that year, the platform saw more than 8.5 billion views on videos about health conditions and over 300 million views on videos related to mental health.

This move reflects the platform’s broader commitment to tackling health-related misinformation, particularly in an age where online searches for symptoms and diagnoses can lead to dangerous self-misdiagnoses or reliance on unscientific remedies. By collaborating with top medical institutions in Spain, such as the Hospital Gregorio Marañón and Clínica Universidad de Navarra, YouTube Health offers a valuable resource for users seeking credible information on topics ranging from diabetes to mental health and more.

Additionally, YouTube Health includes new features like dedicated health content shelves and information panels, which provide users with clear sources and context for the videos they watch.

YouTube has also recently launched the global initiative YouTube Teens Wellbeing, aimed at supporting the mental health and overall well-being of adolescents on the platform. This initiative focuses on giving families more control and supervision over their children’s YouTube experience while providing resources and tools to promote digital well-being and mental health.

As part of this effort, YouTube has introduced additional safeguards in content recommendations for teens, developed in collaboration with independent experts from the Youth and Families Advisory Committee. The platform has also implemented crisis resource panels in Spain and other countries, offering contact information for support services for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or self-harm crises.
