At Lenovo Tech World, Lenovo, in partnership with Innovations in Dementia, introduced “Alzheimer’s Intelligence,” a groundbreaking AI-driven project designed to support people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. This proof-of-concept tool features a highly realistic 3D avatar, offering 24-hour access to personalized, compassionate advice based on the lived experiences of those diagnosed with dementia. The avatar, named «Liv,» engages users in conversation, providing tailored responses to common challenges and questions faced by individuals with dementia. It also helps users navigate their daily lives by offering practical tips and emotional support.
The AI avatar is powered by an advanced large language model (LLM) that draws on real-world data from dementia patients. Lenovo collaborated with Innovations in Dementia’s Dementia Diaries and conducted interviews to ensure the guidance provided was accurate, empathetic, and user-friendly. Liv offers assistance on practical challenges faced by dementia patients, such as managing medication or discussing the condition with loved ones, ensuring individuals have access to relatable advice any time they need it.
The avatar was created using cutting-edge AI, blending images from people living with dementia to produce a realistic digital assistant capable of having natural, unscripted conversations. This technology not only helps patients but also empowers families, offering them a resource to better understand and cope with the disease.
While the project is still in its trial phase, its potential impact is vast. With 55 million people currently living with dementia worldwide—a number expected to rise sharply by 2050—projects like Alzheimer’s Intelligence aim to ease the isolation and confusion often faced by those recently diagnosed
