Mount Sinai Hospital has made history as the first in New York City to perform a procedure using the HYDROS™ Robotic System, an advanced technology designed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate. This minimally invasive approach provides new hope for patients struggling with symptoms like frequent urination and incomplete bladder emptying.

The hospital recently completed its first three procedures with the system, and all patients were discharged the next day with positive responses.

BPH is a widespread condition affecting over half of men over 60 and up to 90% of men over 70. Traditional treatments, such as TURP and laser therapy, have been effective but often come with risks. The HYDROS™ system enhances these methods by incorporating AI-powered treatment planning, high-resolution ultrasound imaging, and robotic-assisted precision.

A key innovation of HYDROS™ is its heat-free waterjet technology, which removes obstructive prostate tissue while minimizing damage to surrounding structures. This reduces the risk of complications like incontinence and erectile dysfunction, offering a safer alternative to conventional treatments.

Mount Sinai is committed to expanding access to this breakthrough technology by training its urology team, an experienced aquablation specialist, has completed advanced HYDROS training, and additional surgeons will begin performing procedures soon.

With this milestone, Mount Sinai strengthens its position as a leader in robotic surgical care, aiming to improve outcomes and redefine BPH treatment for the future.
