Amazon is stepping further into the healthcare space with the beta launch of Health AI, a generative AI-powered medical assistant currently being tested on its website and mobile app. This new tool aims to provide users with instant answers to health and wellness questions, offering support for managing everyday symptoms such as colds or the flu.

Unlike traditional e-commerce chatbots, Health AI uses advanced natural language processing (NLP) to deliver tailored responses to users’ health inquiries. It can suggest care options, recommend over-the-counter products, and even connect users to Amazon’s existing health services, including its online pharmacy and One Medical, the primary care provider it acquired in 2022 for $3.9 billion.

Some responses are marked with a “clinically verified” badge, signaling that licensed U.S.-based clinicians have reviewed the information. This enhances the credibility of the advice and reflects Amazon’s ambition to build trust in its digital health offerings.

While the chatbot provides general medical guidance, Amazon emphasizes that it does not replace professional medical advice. Users are encouraged to consult healthcare providers for personal health concerns.

With Health AI, Amazon is leveraging its vast digital infrastructure to position itself as a serious player in the growing field of consumer-focused digital healthcare.
