The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) has launched OneCareAI, a new spin-off focused on real-time, personalized, and early detection of stroke risk. This initiative marks a major step in BSC’s commitment to digital health innovation, using artificial intelligence and supercomputing to tackle one of the world’s leading causes of death, disability, and dementia.

OneCareAI offers a non-invasive, data-driven solution that analyzes electrocardiogram (ECG) data collected from wearable devices, such as smartwatches, while incorporating lifestyle information via a mobile app. In Spain alone, around 120,000 people suffer a stroke each year, with approximately 25,000 resulting in death.

«OneCareAI represents a new vision of preventive medicine—where science, technology, and personal well-being converge to anticipate cerebrovascular diseases,» says Davide Cirillo, co-founder of OneCareAI and head of the BSC’s Machine Learning for Biomedical Research group.

Developed through the Innostroke project, the technology brings together expertise from computer and life sciences, including researchers from the Sant Pau Research Institute, who enhanced its predictive power with genetic and molecular biomarkers. Unlike other solutions, OneCareAI combines multi-omics and ECG patterns for more accurate risk assessments and is compatible with various existing devices.

This spin-off is the 14th launched by BSC in its 20-year history and exemplifies the center’s drive to translate scientific advances into real-world impact. Backed by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and several public innovation programs, OneCareAI also holds promise for broader application in cardiovascular, metabolic, and respiratory conditions—setting the stage for future expansion in digital health.
